Why I am blogging......

I started this blog to up-date others on the day-to-day events of our family. As the children grew older, and I grew wiser, I realized I wanted to change my direction, and the children wanted to be ommitted from the blog completely. I hope to still manage to include them from time to time but perhaps just through pictures. I am searching for my niche, and way to help lighten the load of others and perhaps lead others to my savior, Jesus Christ. I am focusing on "What really matters" and hopefully, I can help others in some small productive way. While I am changing gears, I will still be throwing in random thoughts, recipes and etc. I am glad you stopped by and bear with me, as I begin to grow and span my wings and fly in a new direction!

Childhood Memories

A life long friend of my lost her Dad this week.  I thought about her and her family and remembered spending time at their house.  When I was small my Mom took me with her on her weekly visit to the beauty shop.  I LOVED to go because I loved the smell of the shop and because I would more times than not play with Kathy while Mom got her hair done.  Well, this was a special place for many reasons...Kathy's grandmother, Momma Hall, lived next door and she owned the beauty shop.  Her house was beyond clean, she was a sweet lady.  I can remember her sweeping her porch and even the road in front of her house.  Anyway, I was always excited to see Kathy outside when we came to get Mom's hair done, and I would run to play with her.  Her Dad, Hubert Hall and her Grandpa owned and ran a produce market.  It did not matter what the season the Hall's always had what you needed.  Summertime fruit  straight from Florida, watermelons, locally grown, Christmas oranges, and seems like maybe even Christmas trees.  We would run and play in the huge coolers, in the back of the trucks through her house in Momma Hall's, even though that was frowned upon, everywhere!  Hubert would always laugh at us and always had something funny to say.  Barbara, Kathy's Mom was always busy, busy.  Cooking, crafting, and being Mom.  She can make anything, much like Kathy, Sherry and Karon.  I enjoyed being around Kathy's house when it was time to eat, Barbara always had some good food!  Kathy and I  have remained friends through high school, college and even now seeing our kids grow up.  I want to thank the Hall family for some great childhood memories.....Death doesn't take our memories it somehow enhances them!!!!  Hubert Hall a kind, fun man..thanks for the memories!

Oh My....

Why do I always start a project @ the worst times?!  It is crunch time at the ole Haley house!  I host Thanksgiving for my family each year and I thought my den makeover would be kinda easy and quick, WRONG!  The wallpaper wants to stay, the popcorn ceiling is gone, but the dust is everywhere, oh well it will be nice soon!  It always gets worse before better!  I guess we are in the middle of the storm right before the rainbow comes out!!  All these pics are before .....needless to say to be continued!!!

Update on projects.............

Poo has been busy lately with several projects.  I think if  you asked him he would say he is working on his Honey do list!!!  But he loves to work outside and he does enjoy doing projects even if they happen to be on the "list".  He added steps off of our deck to our side yard.  It is a place for me and Nick to go for his "business", and I look forward to bringing color to the landscaping here also.

We work great together...until his OCD and my ADD kicks in and well I might wander off and start something else, which drives him crazy, and when I come back to him he is stressing over any little thing until it is PERFECT! Yes I screamed!!!

I wanted to show the pics from the beginning of the project to the end, but I messed up.  Any hooo the steps are great!!!

We  have moved inside to the den, before and after pics to follow.  We are up to our ears in dust.  Whoever invented popcorn ceilings should be shot!!! Ours is down, but boy what a mess!!!!  Stay tuned for more adventures of Poo and Doo!!! hehheeheheeeeee

Caramel Apple Cake With Caramel Topping

2.5 cups of sugar
3 eggs
1.5 cups of vegetable oil
3 cups of all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons vanilla
1 cup chopped walnuts
2.5 cups diced apples

**preheat oven to 350 degrees.  Cream together sugar, eggs, and oil.  Add flour; mix together until well blended.  Add vanilla, nuts and diced apples.  Spread into a lightly greased and floured 13 x 9-inch baking dish; bake for 45-60 minutes.  Cake is done when toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.  When cake is done, punch holes in it with a knife and pour topping over.

Caramel Topping

3 sticks of butter ( I use two and it is plenty)
2 cups brown sugar
1/4 cup milk

Heat all ingredients together over medium heat.  Bring to boil, stirring constantly.  Let boil about 2 minutes.  Pour over warm cake.

Thursday's thought

I have been reminded of several friends that are facing difficult decisions.  So many folks are hurting physically, emotionally and spiritually.  I am very blessed and just when I think I am experiencing some winding roads, I know I don't have any real problems compare to others.  I think God reminds me to let go and let Him.  But, I like being in control (thinking that I am) and then I often fail and guess what.. I let go and let God.  I can't understand this..if I KNOW I can't do just simple tasks alone why won't I just let go?

So I am trying to slow down, enjoy more, do less and thank God for everything in my life.  I have a wonderful family, great friends and a good life.  Tonight I am thankful for GRACE=God's Riches At Christ Expense.  It is comforting to know HIS grace Reaches me.

love and peace all

Friday night, stormy night, ahhhhhh rain

After work today I had BIG plans.  My mind raced all day @ work about all the stuff I wanted to get done, or needed to do.  Well, I made the mistake of sitting down telling myself it would be only for a little while.  Well, I did manage to give the dog a bath and do some laundry..but that is it.  Oh well, I have enjoyed watching the sky light up, and hearing the rain and thunder.  Something about storms make me think of when I was a little girl.  I use to love to go to my grandmother's house and play.  I thought of that and her tonight.  She was a pretty lady, and so funny.  I love you Nun Nun's.  I also remember going to my Pape Garrison's house and playing in the barn and @ this time of the year picking the BEST grapes from his vines in the garden.  I can still hear him calling the pigs....good memories.  Everyone have a good weekend...do something you enjoy and take the time to take it ALL in.  love and peace to all :)

Pool update.....

As usual we thought we were prepared for the pool installation.  I only wanted to Keep one tree, it is a river Burch, sometimes called a toilet paper tree.  We had planted it not long after we moved here.  Well, the pool had to be moved over from where we wanted it, and guess what, yes the river Burch had to go.   I was sad, but it did turn out better, we can now connect our pool deck to our house deck.  Everything happens for a reason!!!  I have mellowed the older I get, I would have previously wanted the water in ASAP, the landscaping even quicker and the deck built that night!  But now, I am just happy to have a pool and the rest will come in time.  We are off to the beach so, the pool will be here when we get back.  I am excited about going to the beach, our buddies D & D are going and we ALL need to get away.  We have friends there now and say it is beautiful, no oil, no smell, so we will see.  If there happens to be oil there when we arrive, I will be on CNN, the hysterical southern woman, saying, "It sounded like a freight train when it came in"!, why does everyone say that when they are interviewed??  love and peace to all.

What have the Haley's Been Up to......

I have been a bad blogger..but if there is anyone still out there...We have been just doing the daily routine.  I am thankful  for routines though.

Kallie is moving to Cookeville this fall for school so that has kept me busy buying things for her apartment.  The older I get I don't like to hurry, so I have gradually bought things and we are almost prepared for her move.  We have things all over the house, using it for storage, but has been fun.  I am excited for her. :)

Kyle turns 16 next week!!!  Sixteen is a BIG birthday!!!  I can remember (believe it or not) it bring some independence and some freedom.  The best days ---school, (whether they think so or not) friends, hanging out, NO worries!!!!!!  I am happy for my kids and thankful for our health.

We sold our boat.......we became tired.....loading.....dragging.......so we are moving on..Mark explains as been there done that, I guess that is right.

So we are putting in a pool!  Poo is excited which makes me excited, and the kids are happy!  Progress pics to follow-Have a great weekend.  love and peace to all

In a little bit of a Pickel.........

Ohh my!!!!  Yes, I have been on facebook a lot!  Lovin it, with encouragment from several friends to try it...and they were right I loved seeing everyone and meeting new friends and visiting with some of my old friends.  However, I became braver and braver and browsed to things I normally would not investigate.  See I sometimes have a nose problem.  Actually I like to call it being very curious!!  So I opened a video....not the right thing to do.  It was supposed to be from a student,.... no it was a nasty (very) virus.  I not only infected Kallie's laptop but half of the county.  Oh no...it does not stop there...I realized it was a virus immediately...trogan virus..so I thought you know Kallie needs spy ware protection..so I bought it on-line....from a bogus company and yeah you guessed it I used my debit card and yes I came to my senses before the company could draft my account.  So here is my excuse...I am having kidney stone surgery Friday and I am on pain meds (@ night not @ work) so when I say I used bad judgement I mean really bad.  I cannot for the life of me see why anyone would want to be under the influence of drugs...they make you crazy and well you are just not yourself.  I cannot believe I did this. So, I am banned from facebook, at least for awhile.  Sometimes I think only things such as these happen to ME.  So a word from a lesson learner.(NOT A WORD,,BUT ANYWAY)..DO NOt Open videos...... and Know the company you are purchasing from..life will be easier and you won't have to feel the wrath from your kids!:(

Helping those In Need.....

Greta Minton and Tina Walker are traveling to Haiti to help with the victims of the earthquake medical needs.  They need medical supplies, and medicines to take with them.  Pharmacies and doctor's offices are helping with a lot of the needed items however, they are appreciative of any money others donate for other things they also need to take with them.  I am just blown away with these ladies willingness to leave their comfort zones and help others in need.  It has to be hard to leave their own families.  First, I want tho thank these ladies for their willingness to help others, and also for the EXCELLENT example they are being to us.  If you are interested in helping with a donation I am sure you can take it to @ Dr. Chastain's office in an envelope with their names on it and the office staff will get it to them.  We are intstructed to help each other and bears each others burdens, I think we can help!!!  Thank you ladies for showing us how to give to others selflessly.

Blessed Life....

I was thinking today (scary) how fast the world is turning.  I wished I could drag my toe and make it slow down just a little!!!  I have several friends who are experiencing hard times and tough decisions now in their lives.  I offer my prayers to each one of them, it is the single BEST thing I can do.  I (We) have a straight, wireless connection to the Commander and Chief, and he even knows my (our) name (s)!!! Wow!  When I feel overwhelmed, helpless, weary, excited HE is there with me.  That is amazing to me!!!

Yes, the world slowing down is appealing but not realistic, or is it?  It is up to ME!  I am reminded to BE STILL AND KNOW I AM GOD.  How comforting....I hope and pray for peace and love to all-

Is it Friday Yet????........

What a Lon---g week!  Our house has been so busy and usually that equals a fast week, but NOT this week.  I am so ready for Spring!  I always get spring fever during January and February.  I am anxious to see the buttercups and the first signs of life.  However, I will just have to wait until at least after this weekend, snow, ice, cold. Yuck!  Hopefully it will be a pretty snow and I can get out and take some pics.

Have a good weekend. :)love and peace to all

Painting and thinking...

We try to do our home improvements during the winter months because we go to the lake most every weekend during the summer.  Well, we are slow getting started this winter but we are fixing to kick it into high gear.  We are adding crown molding to most of our rooms.  I have been thinking of painting my wood kitchen cabinets.  Mark does not like the ideal at all, but I want color.  Maybe a crisp white, or a glazy something something?  I am scared!  If anyone reading this has painted their wood cabinets I would love to hear from you.  Do you regret it?  Any tips?

We are also thinking of painting and paneling our fireplace.  I want to panel it and paint the brick white.  When I say panel I mean the decortive strips of paneling like framing.

We may have to go to counseling before we even start.  It is hard to work and do home improvements also.  Say a prayer for us!!love and peace to all

The Cab ride

Well, the cab ride to the airport is one I will Always remember.  Of course the driver was not American, which is not a big deal but I think if he had of been he would have understood I was almost to the point of passing out.  The Bears  were playing a home game so downtown was more than busy.  The roads are closed and made one way, etc.  Well, he tooted his horn from the time we got in until we got out.  The traffic directors are not the police so he said he could do what he wanted.  He attempted to get the traffic director to "let" him turn by tooting the horn "at" her.  She told him no he could not turn, he said fine and went up the street and made a u-turn in fromt of four cars coming at us.  Of course I screamed and then all the sudden we were back at the intersection with the traffic director that would not let him turn.  He stopped looked at her tooted and we went on.  I thought ok I made it throught that...well I kept turning around looking for the sirens that I knew were chasing us....all the way to the airport we were going 80+ miles an hour, bubba flipping us off in the lane next to us, I bursted out into "Amazing Grace".I was laying in Kallie's lap with the window down, almost in tears thinking to myself I know we do not get to pick when and where we die but I do not want to die on the freeway in the outskirts of Chicago needlessly.  Well, the cab driver looks back at me, not because I was singing out the TOP of my lungs but because I was laying in Kallies lap. and he said "sorry I will slow down I don't mean to scare you."  Well he did for maybe 15 seconds and I was still looking out the back window for the police because I could still hear sirens.  We finally make it to the airport..the "sirens" I kept hearing was the rearend of the cab falling out of it, only a mechanics wife would finally realize this!  I have never been so proud to walk on a sidewalk in my LIFE.

Chicago for My Birthday....

Navy Pier  and Lake Michigan.

I can't rotate it-but this was a $1300 dress just hanging on a rack in Neimen Marcus.  I ate a cookie there-of course and even ate lunch also. :)
We had a BLAST in Chicago.  We got a GREAT deal on airfare, and hotel.  We left early Saturday morning and came back Sunday night.  I had a ball.  I had never been to Chi-town, and I was just blown away with it.  This pic is @ the Chessecake Factory, yum-o.

Just one of the many (300 + pics I took.

I didn't get the Memo...

Ok I know I have ranted on this subject before, but like a Mother does, I think I need to go over it again! I did not receive the memo that said "it is ok to wear your pjs shopping". I was, where else, but Wal-mart Wednesday returning something and there was a young girl with her baby, which by the way the baby was dressed well, but Mom had on Elmo fleecy pjs. Kids today need to be told it is not ok to wear your bed clothes out, unless going to the mail box. Where has common sense gone? More than likely the girl didn't have a Mom to tell her that it is not ok, or she is at the age that she won't listen, either way, this is a pet peeve of mine, and I am not ever going to get use to pjs in public. Now I might be through ranting, and venting.:)

I do not like winter, I have to say it again, I do not like winter. I think I will buy some flowers for the kitchen just to remind me Spring is coming. Have a good day. love and peace to all.

Oh to be a student again....

I can remember when I could not wait to hear no school no school (snowbird talked then) Well, he is flying tonight and I know the kids are so happy.

Even though I work for the school system I do not have the same hours as the schools have. So I will be working but knowing Kyle is out tomorrow along with all the kids still make me happy.

Kallie is off to Savannah with a friend. Sounds like fun to me. Shop, shop and eat!!! I always like to go somewhere. love and peace to all-enjoy

Baby it is COLD outside...Summer please

I am NOT a fan of winter. Snow or not I am a hot weather girl. I can't stand to stay in the cabin-cabin fever hits quickly and then I eat and become miserable even quicker. The picture reminds me of hot, summer days. Oh how I would love to be somewhere hot and tropical. It is fun to day dream about being on an island just taking it easy!!! Hitting the powerball is a MUST-but I have to play it and I don't understand how?!!!

Getting back to work is hard!!! I have just done my own thing on my time off and did not get one thing on my list accomplished. I let HGTV and Barefoot Contessa (i love love love her) Nash Bridges, and the Price is Right take my time!!! But seriously needed to get back into a routine, but I think gradually easing back is a better answer. You know a few hours a day, kinda like Kindergarten phase in!!!! When I become Queen of the planet (hee hee) I will make that a rule!!

The washer and iron is calling me so I must go. Maybe I will use the steam on the iron and pretend I am somewhere balmy. peace and love to all
